Fixed Odds: 2008 England v New Zealand Test series Sidebottom now the only man to back May 14, 2008
English bowlers generally excel in English conditions and the betting is pretty tight with regard to who will finish as the leading wicket-taker in the three-Test series against New Zealand, beginning on Thursday. Click here to bet on England v New Zealand at bet365 Having tipped Matthew Hoggard to upset the odds by first regaining his place and then pipping Ryan Sidebottom for leading wicket honours, imagine my dismay when he was then left out of the side for Lord's. So, with Hoggard out, the prices have obviously changed and Sidebottom, who was the outstanding bowler when the two sides met in New Zealand just a couple of months ago, has been cut to 6/4 favourite. Considering he was 13/8 already, though, that makes him now a pretty good price. He is basically a left-handed Matthew Hoggard - which is not a criticism - more that he puts the ball in the right place, high enough up the pitch to get some swing, works hard and tests the batsmen's patience. Stuart Broad is now second favourite, in from 4/1 to 3/1, while Monty Panesar and the talented but inconsistent James Anderson are both 7/2.
Double-up on Ryan
