Date-stamped : 02 Oct94 - 10:21 Australia v Sri Lanka ODI 2 Whatever their shortcomings in the Test series, Sri Lanka displayed their superiority in the one-day game and chinched the series. Ranatunga won the toss and asked Australia to bat first on an excellent pitch. Moody and Taylor put on 56 in 14 overs, but Taylor and Boon were both run out, and although Jones hit 59 off 89 balls, Australia could never get on top of the bowling. They finished with a dissapointing 216 from their 50 overs. Rain reduced the match after six overs, and Sri Lanka were faced with a readjusted target of 191 in 44 overs. Hathuru- singhe and Mahanama gave them a fine start, and de Silva punished the attack with an innings of great flair, 63 off 61 balls. Hathurusinghe was forced to retire hurt on 48, but he came back to score his fifty and score the winning runs with seven balls to spare.
