Glamorgan v West Indies A, Tour Match, Ebbw Vale

Glamorgan complete thrilling chase

Cricinfo staff

August 9, 2006

Glamorgan 328 for 6 (Hemp 79*, Cosgrove 69) beat West Indies A 326 for 6 (Devon Smith 136, Morton 89) by four wickets
Scorecard

Glamorgan produced an impressive run-chase to beat West Indies A in a high-scoring thriller at Ebbw Vale. Devon Smith's 135 powered West Indies past 300, but a series of rapid innings from the Glamorgan batsmen reeled in the target with three balls to spare.

Mark Cosgrove took just 50 balls over his 69 at the top of the order and every Glamorgan batsman reached double figures - and at a decent pace, which meant the required rate never got out of control. David Hemp anchored the latter stages of the chase with a measured 79 off 77 balls and was helped by some clean striking from Mark Wallace and Ryan Watkins.

It was another disappointing effort from West Indies' bowlers and wasted a fine century from Smith. He added 106 for the first wicket with Lendl Simmons and 160 for the second with Runako Morton, who 89 off 84 balls. However, even those fireworks were not enough after Glamorgan's teamwork.
