Profile
Umesh Kumar was an offspinner for Punjab who played 67 first-class games between 1969 and 1986 and took 191 wickets at 20.69. He also played three matches for North Zone, including one against the touring Australians in 1979, in which he took the wickets of Allan Border and Dav Whatmore. He took up umpiring after retirement and began with matches in Pakistan in 1987. He was the third umpire for the India-Sri Lanka Test in Mohali in 1997. Kumar died of a heart attack at the age of 56 in Patiala. Cricinfo Staff September 2008
