Media Release: Gibraltar hosts Invitational Tournament

Gibraltar Cricket Association

The Gibraltar Cricket Association ("GCA"), an associate member of the International Cricket Council ("ICC") is hosting an invitational quadrangular cricket tournament in September.

The tournament will start on the 22nd on a one-group basis with Gibraltar, France, Israel and Italy playing each other once. Finals day with games between 3rd and 4th and 1st and 2nd in the group will take place on Saturday 25th September.

Games will be played at the Victoria Stadium (Astroturf) and the Europa Sports Ground (Notts turf). The ground at Europa is the most southerly cricket pitch in Europe and its Notts turf wicket should produce some fine cricket.

Don Oslear, well-respected former Test and County cricket umpire, will be acting as tournament referee as well as standing at matches. Nigel Laughton, European Cricket Development Officer of the ICC will also be attending. It is also hoped that other dignitaries and officials will be able to attend this event.
