Points at stake in the Asian Test Championship (11 February 1999) 11 February 1999 Points at stake in the Asian Test Championship By Our Special Representative NEW DELHI, Feb 10: A maximum of 20 points will be at stake in the Asian Test Championship league matches whose playing conditions were announced here on Wednesday. There will be no points for first innings lead in case of draw, but 12 points would be awarded for an outright win. There will be four points for 350 runs or more, three points for scores between 300 and 349, two points for scores were 225 and 299 and one point for scores between 150 and 224. Similarly, four points will be awarded for nine to 10 wickets, three points for seven to eight wickets, two points for five to six wickets and one point for three to four wickets. However, batting and bowling points will be confined only to the first 100 overs of the first innings. The two teams th the highest number of points will qualify for the final. In case two teams are tied on points, the team with a better run-rate in the first 100 overs will go through. In case the final ends in a draw, the winner would be adjudged after aggregating the batting and bowling bonus points in that match. The playing conditions, likely to be implemented in the World Test Championship, were finalized by the three-member Asian Cricket Council (ACC) committee commprising Sunil Gavaskar (India), Majid Khan (Pakistan) and Ranjit Fernando (Sri Lanka). Meanwhile, the ACC has also decided to appoint both the third country umpires in the Asian Test Championship matches. South African Rudi Koetzen and West Indian Steve Bucknor have been named for the first match involving Pakistan and India to be played at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta between Feb 16 and 20.
