3rd ODI, India v Australia, Statistical Highlights

- It was the 1699th ODI in cricket history.
- It was India's 462nd and Australia's 479th match.
- It was the 65th match between these two sides. The record now reads: India 25, Australia 37, abandoned 3.
- Umpires V Chopra and K Hariharan were officiating in their fourth and sixth match respectively.
- Sachin Tendulkar on 34 became first ever batsman to complete 10000 runs in shorter version of the game. He was playing his 266th match. It was also an Indian (Sunil Gavaskar at Ahmedabad on 07-03-1987) who had become first batsman to complete 10000 Test runs .
- Tendulkar (139) scored his 28th hundred of his ODI career - his sixth against Australia. He now shares the record of scoring maximum hundreds against Australia alongwith West Indian Desmond Haynes. Haynes, however, took 64 innings as against Tendulkar's 31.
- Tendulkar's innings is the highest by any batsman against Australia at Indian soil eclipsing New Zealander Chris Harris' 130 at Chennai in Wills World Cup Semifinal on 11-03-1996.Incidentally the previous highest for India at home soil was 105* by Ajay Jadeja at Kochi on 01-04-1998.
- The 19 fours by Tendulkar is the maximum fours hit by a batsman against Australia in an innings. Tendulkar bettered England's Wayne Larkins' record who hit 18 fours during his innings of 124 at Hyderabad on 19-10-1989.
- Tendulkar has now aggregated 1552 runs against Australia at an average of 50.06. He has now moved to third position among the batsmen with most runs in a career surging ahead of West Indian Richie Richardson (1498 from 51 matches). Now only Desmond Haynes (2262 from 64 matches) and Viv Richards (2187 from 54 matches) .
- Tendulkar has now aggregated 5066 runs while batting first in ODIs. He was playing his 133rd match and 132nd innings. He became second batsman after Australia's Mark Waugh (5132 from 129 matches) to do so.
- The second wicket partnership of 199 runs between Tendulkar and VVS Laxman is India's best for this wicket against Australia in all matches expunging the 165 run-partnership between Sunil Gavaskar and Mohammad Azharuddin at Sharjah on 05-04-1987.
- The partnership is also the third highest for second wicket for any side against Australia after the 205 run-partnership between Desmond Haynes and Viv Richards for West Indies at Melbourne on 09-12-1979 and 202 run-partnership between Graham Gooch and David Gower for England at Lord's on 03-06-1985.
- Laxman (83) scored his highest ODI score in his 16th match. Interestingly Laxman has now bettered his personal best score in last three matches making 45 at Bangalore and 51 at Poona.
- The wicket of Vijay Dahiya was 200th for Glenn McGrath in his 133rd match. He became third Australian after Shane Warne (249 wickets in 160 matches) and Craig McDermott (203 wickets in 138 matches) and 13th bowler overall to do so.
- India's total (299-8) was the highest by any side at this venue. The previous best was 248 for five by India and 248 (all out) by Zimbabwe in the same match on 18-11-1993.
- Adam Gilchrist on 23 completed his 2000 runs in 'away' matches for Australia to become the seventh Australian to do so.
- Gilchrist scored 22 runs of a single over from Zaheer Khan (12th of Australian innings). The sequence: 4 0 6 4 4 4.
- Zaheer Khan's figures of 6-0-51-0 is the most expensive by an Indian in a six-over spell against Australia. The previous record was held by Subroto Bannerjee who conceded 41 runs at Hobart on 10-12-1991.
- The victory margin of 118 runs equals India's highest against Australia. India had beaten Australia by identical margin in the World Cup game at Chelmsford on June 20,1983.
- Tendulkar extended his own world record tally of most Man of the Match awards to 38. It was also his ninth award against Australia. He thus equalled the tally of West Indian Desmond Haynes who has also won nine MoM awards in 64 matches.
