Pakistan victory in Sharjah headlines ICC Cricket World

ICC Media Release

April 19, 2002

Pakistan's tremendous victory in the Sharjah Trophy provides the highlight of the latest edition of the ICC Cricket World TV programme due to be shown in the UK on Channel 4 at 8.30am on Saturday 20th April.

Batting first Pakistan reached 295 (the highest total of the tournament) thanks mainly to a quick fire 129 from 131 deliveries from Yousuf Youhana; Youhana featured in a match winning 5th wicket partnership of 155 with Younis Khan. Sri Lanka's bowling attack was severely hindered by the loss of Muralitharan, who injured a shoulder when fielding early in the game.

When Sri Lanka batted it was the turn of Pakistan's pace attack to dominate, Akram, Akhtar and Younis doing the damage as the Sri Lanka innings closed at 78 for 9 from 16.5 overs - Muralitharan being unable to bat. Pakistan's 217 run victory was on of the biggest in one day cricket and led to them taking the 2002 Sharjah Cup.

Other action featured in the programme will be highlights from the washed out first Test between West Indies and India from Guyana. West Indies captain Carl Hooper and Rahul Dravid provide the batting fireworks; Hooper scored his first double century in Tests while Dravid hit an unbeaten 144.

Chanderpaul also weighed in with 140 for the home team Dravid also features in this week's player profile and the programme includes an action montage of modern greats Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar.
