ICC Secondee Program underway with three Appointments

ICC Media Release

January 24, 2002

The ICC today announced the first three appointments made under a new program of six-month secondments from international cricket boards to the game's ruling body.

The three successful applicants have been selected from more than 30 candidates representing cricket Boards in Bangladesh, England, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Secondments were offered to all ICC Full Member Boards.

David Clarke joins the ICC's communications department from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) where he is Corporate Communications Manager. David has been with the ECB and its predecessor the Test and County Cricket Board, for 10 years in a variety of communications management roles. Most recently he was ECB media manager on the England Test tour to India in November and December last year.

During his secondment he will work closely with ICC Communications Manager Mark Harrison and take special responsibility for the development of the ICC web site (www.icc.cricket.org), evaluation of an intranet facility and expansion of the ICC's publications portfolio.

Subhan Ahmad from the Pakistan Cricket Board has been seconded to work for ICC Development International (IDI), the commercial arm of the ICC, which is based in Monaco. He has been with the PCB for seven years and is currently its Cricket Operations Manager. His first ICC assignment is as Event Co-ordinator for the Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand, where he is an integral part of ICC Commercial Manager Campbell Jamieson's team at the tournament.

The third secondee is Jerome Jayaratne who joins ICC from the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka, where he has been Coaching and Development Manager for the past 12 months. A former Sri Lanka Under 19 representative, Jerome will spend six months at Lord's working with ICC Development Manager Andrew Eade on a range of coaching projects.

"These secondments were highly prized and closely contested and I am delighted with the quality of the three appointments we have been able to make," said ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. "The value to ICC is the immediate contribution David, Subhan and Jerome will be able to make in their specialist areas. In return, I hope the experience will add to their understanding of the way international cricket is managed and help foster closer relationships with cricket Boards around the world.

Further secondment opportunities will be offered by the ICC later in the year.
