Sourav Ganguly is likely to be fit in time for the third Test against Pakistan, which starts on April 13 at Rawalpindi. Ganguly was forced to miss the first Test after injuring his back while fielding during the fifth one-day international, but reports now suggest that the injury is a minor one.
"I examined Ganguly last evening at his home immediately after he arrived here and from the preliminary investigation it appears that the injury is not serious," said Dr Kalyan Mukherjee, the orthopaedic surgeon who is examining him. "If my initial understanding of Ganguly's injury matches the test reports then he should take only a few days to recover fully to rejoin the team in Pakistan for the third and final Test.
"This is basically an injury in the lumbar region of the lower back. All the reports should come in over the next couple of days and then we can for say for sure, but for now, things look good." He also said that it was not necessary for Ganguly to be admitted to a nursing home.
