Three Sri Lankan players fined

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara - mind your language, says Mike Procter © AFP

Sri Lanka's sense of jubilation on Monday morning, after their Asia Cup triumph, has been tempered slightly by the news that three of their players - Kumar Sangakkara, Upul Chandana and Tillakaratne Dilshan - have been fined for bringing the game into disrepute.

Mike Procter, the ICC match referee, held a disciplinary inquiry on Monday morning, delaying the team's departure for the first Test at Galle, after the behaviour of the trio was reported by the umpires David Shepherd and Billy Bowden at the end of the match.

Their complaint followed heated exchanges between Sangakkara and Harbhajan Singh towards the end of the Indian innings, and a verbal exchange after the dismissal of Mohammad Kaif moments before.

Procter found Sangakkara guilty of a Level Two breach of the ICC's Code of Conduct, which deals with the use of "language that is obscene, offensive or of a generally insulting nature". Sangakkara escaped a match ban but was fined his entire match fee.

Chandana and Dilshan were charged for a Level One offence, which also refers to the use of obscene language, and were fined 50% of their match fee.
