Profile:

Mazhar Hussein is perhaps the outstanding cricketer in the UAE squad. Just as his face suggests that he would have more than a bald pate, his sublime cricketing skills suggest that he has the potential to play for a greater cricketing power. Hussein is in fact somewhat bitter that only "petty politics and favouritism" denied him his "deserved" oppportunity of playing for his mother country, Pakistan. A compact batsman, blessed with the capability for big hitting as well, Hussein is both the first to score a century for the UAE (122 vs. Ireland in the ICC Trophy) and a half-century (75 vs India in the 1994 Australasia Cup). He rates the latter as his most memorable knock. His batting stands out as the most attractive in the UAE squad his keen eye, nimble foot- work and wide repertoire of strokes make him the man to watch when he is out in the middle and on song. He may never fully get over the anguish of not playing for Pakistan after success at the service in the World Cup.
