2004 Wisden Almanack review
Cricket in Shanghai enjoyed another successful season. The catalyst for growth was the thriving season of indoor matches and coaching sessions, which act as a popular introduction point for beginners. Around 35 newcomers enjoyed their first taste, amongst them Chinese, Poles and Russians. The club’s new outdoor net facilities, installed in September, attract inexperienced and established players alike. The annual Shanghai Sixes welcomed 12 teams from across the Far East; Shanghai Dragons won the Cup, defeating Japan in the final. Sadly, hopes of a concerted revival in Beijing floundered.
