2004 Wisden Almanack review
The euphoria of World Cup participation has been tempered considerably by news that Namibian national teams at all levels have been excluded from all tournaments conducted by the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA), who decided they wanted to cut the number of teams to raise the standard. The senior national team last season competed in South Africa’s premier one-day competition, the Standard Bank League, and in previous years played in the UCB Bowl for provincial second elevens. Just as cricket in Namibia was enjoying an upsurge in profile and participation (2,000 children are now playing mini-cricket in the country’s northern regions), the Namibia Cricket Board must now look elsewhere.
