ICC Champions Trophy, 2006-07

ICC Champions Trophy, 2006-07

15-Apr-2007
At Jaipur, October 13, 2006 (day/night). Bangladesh won by 101 runs. Bangladesh 2 pts. Toss: Zimbabwe. One-day international debut: Mehrab Hossain, jun.
This wooden-spoon battle had been expected to produce the tournament's first close contest, but it was no such thing, thanks mainly to an outstanding innings from Shahriar Nafees. Dropped at cover by Chigumbura before scoring, he went on to Bangladesh's highest one-day innings. It began as an exercise in application, as he struggled to find rhythm on a low, slow pitch. Later, he hit heavily through the leg side, particularly against Utseya's off-spin. Taylor's 52 was the sole resistance for Zimbabwe, but it cost the run-outs of Masakadza (who sacrificed his wicket) and Matsikenyeri (a less willing victim of Taylor's judgment). Bangladesh's battery of slow left-armers, of which 19-year-old Saqibul Hasan was the most impressive, stifled the innings into submission, the four of them combining to take seven wickets for 68.
Man of the Match: Shahriar Nafees.
