Moin rules out retirement

Moin Khan, former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper, has ruled out talk of retirement at the end of this season.

After losing his place to Kamran Akmal in the Pakistan team in October last year, there had been speculation in Pakistan that Moin, now 34, would retire at the end of this domestic season. But he dismissed all talk of retirement, insisting, as always, that he would continue fighting for a place in the national squad.

Speaking to the Karachi-based daily, The News, Moin said, "As long as I am enjoying the game and as long as I feel that I can still contribute to the senior team and make a comeback I will continue to play on. I have no intentions of retiring after this season."

Moin played the last of his 69 Tests against Sri Lanka in Faisalabad and has played 219 ODIs. Since then, on the back of some widely-praised and accomplished performances behind the stumps and fleeting ones with the bat, Akmal has cemented his place as the regular wicketkeeper. But Moin, no stranger to vagaries of selection, was adamant that he would persevere in the hope of another recall.

"I have faced such situations in the past and I have always fought back. So it is nothing new for me. I will play in domestic cricket and try to convince the selectors that I am still capable of contributing a lot to the senior team.

"It is a challenge to go out there and prove yourself after such a long career. It is a challenge for me to show the selectors that I am still fit and good enough at my age." Moin will captain Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Karachi in the upcoming domestic season.
