Amit Bhandari made a forgettable one-day debut against Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Dhaka in 2000, but he was hardly ready for the international stage at that point. He was duly smashed for 75, got two wickets and didn't play for another four years. He was brought back for a solitary game against Zimbabwe in 2004 and never played for India again. Satisfactory performances in domestic cricket, like his 30-wicket haul from six Ranji Trophy games in the 2001-02 season, kept him on the fringes of selection. Bhandari's lack of frightening pace was compensated for by his aggression and ability to move the ball. That talent was showcased superbly during India A's tour of England in 2003, when he emerged as his side's highest wicket-taker.
