Amit Singh, a right-arm medium-pacer for Gujarat, came into prominence when he was signed on by the Rajasthan Royals for the 2009 edition of the IPL in South Africa. He really grabbed the spotlight, though, when it was revealed that he was one of the bookies arrested during the IPL 2013 spot-fixing controversy.
Amit was signed on by Royals when he had only 15 first-class games to his credit. He was praised by Rajasthan captain-coach Shane Warne, and backed up the claims by taking nine wickets in five games. He was reported twice during the tournament for a suspect action, but also won the Man-of-the-Match award for figures of 4 for 19 against Bangalore Royal Challengers.
Amit was also a regular member of the Royals team in 2011 and 2012, playing nine games each season. In all, he took 28 wickets in 23 games for Royals, before being released by the franchise at the end of 2012.
Then the spot-fixing saga broke, and following a probe by the BCCI, he was found guilty of fixing and banned for five years in September 2013.
