Pinged the top of leg and Peshawar win by 5 runs! Phew, that was a heart-in-mouth affair but Peshawar held their nerve in the end and edge out Multan in their fortress. It also breaks their three-match winning streak and Peshawar register their first win of the season
Zalmi vs Sultans, 9th Match at Multan, PSL, Feb 23 2024 - Match Result
What have we just witnessed? Drama, ebbs and flows, and another PSL classic! The crowd got their money's worth with a thriller on Friday night. In the end, Peshawar Zalmi eked out a win, but it wasn't very convincing. The result could have been different had Iftikhar spent more time on the crease and Malan continued for a little longer. Peshawar applied the squeeze with some timely wickets and the chase got derailed. Naveen then held his nerve in the final over in the tug of war. Peshawar got the runs they hoped to get at the toss.
It was heartening to see debutant leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob strutting his stuff in a tense game. Luke Wood was the pick of the bowlers and barely bowled any looseners; he got the key wicket of Mohammad Rizwan but Multan didn't give up and strung small partnerships. This will be a morale-boosting win for Peshawar, who showed a massive improvement today. That's it from tonight. See you tomorrow as action comes thick and fast in PSL. For now, it's goodbye and goodnight from Rvel Zahid
Cricfan: "Regarding the catch at 16.6, doesn't law 33.2.1 say that one has to ground inside the boundary rope and then catch in order to complete the catch. Could you confirm?" That is correct. 33.2.1 A catch will be fair only if, in every case either the ball, at any time or any fielder in contact with the ball, is not grounded beyond the boundary before the catch is completed.
Law 19.5.2: "A fielder who is not in contact with the ground is considered to be grounded beyond the boundary if his/her final contact with the ground, before his/her first contact with the ball after it has been delivered by the bowler, was not entirely within the boundary."
Hani: "The wicket at 16.6 was the turning point, as it turned a potential six into a wicket" Controversial decision for sure
Infernos: "Check the crucinfo win probability man it match swayed like a pendulum...what a game of cricket!!!"
Ahmed: "That decision completely ruined the game for me as a Multan fan. Completely unfair. Also begs the question why the frames are so distinct and why there can't be a camera with a higher frame rate"
Awais: "This PSL has produced some some scintillating thrillers. What a game we've had! "
Edged and taken! Short of a length, angled in and straightening down the line outside off, tries to club him over midwicket and gets a faint tickle to Mohammad Haris who pressed the case forward for a review and he was spot-on, clear deflection on the ultra-edge but once again a terrific cameo from Iftikhar Ahmed
Iftikmania in action! Swung down the ground for six! Length on middle, gets right behind the line and goodness me, he couldn't have hit harder than that, straight into the sightscreen and Multan crowd erupts!
Bruce Wayne: "Love how Ifti was having a go at Abbas - who was batting with SR>200 while he can't hit the proverbial barn door at the moment "
Kerplunk! Fraction short and angling in at leg, gets down on one knee and biffed past fine leg for a four
Another wide, full-length delivery just outside the marker on off, trying to keep it away from his hitting zone
Pitched up and offers some room, thumps it uppishly to extra cover and Luke Wood fumbles to leak a boundary, got a slightly awkward bounce
Sprays a wide outside leg stump, was aiming for the wide yorker
Teasing slow ball bumper wide of off, tries to flay an upper-cut and is beaten by the cunning slower one, Naveen is so good at these slower short ball
DaWolf: "That's a shocking decision. Benefit of the doubt to a dodgy catch? His foot was still touching the ground."
Precious dot to finish the over. Goodish length angling across off, leg-cutter, goes for a cut and misses. Outstanding bowling from Luke Wood
Bowls a snorter on a hard length angling across off, tries to swat and only swats a few flies in the process.
bruce wayne: "Fielding from Pakistani fielders have been shocking! Haseebullah dropping 2 sitters which are both turning out to be lethal for Peshawar. Khushdil has kept some games alive for the opposition just by dropping bucket loads. Fakhar was horrible the other day "
Cricfan: "Regarding the catch at 16.6, doesn't law 33.2.1 say that one has to ground inside the boundary rope and then catch in order to complete the catch. Could you confirm?" will have to check
Hasan: "why does the fielding side get the benefit of the doubt?? Regardless, that clearly looked like his foot was down and I am a neutral observer here" yeah, that was quite baffling why umpire gave the benefit of the doubt to the fielding side, why give benefit to anyone in the first place and the job should be to make the right call
Wide yorker tailing from off, scythes it away to deep third
Oh, that would have been an absolute worldie! Short, and a bit wide, sliced in the air, Naveen almost plucked it out of thin air at backward point, got his hands while running back but it popped out
Scorching delivery climbing from back of a length in the channel, tries to cut and gets beaten
Shuffles across off and he follows him with a low full-toss and chips it straight to Saim Ayub at short fine. Iftikhar still fuming at Abbas which is rather uncalled for, he has a tendency for these outbursts, happened in the Sindh Premier League recently as well.
Launches it in the air towards long-on and it falls short of the fielder
Another misjudged catch, bumper thumped hard into the surface, goes big downtown and it falls away from Babar Azam. Meanwhile, Iftikhar yells at Abbas, he wants the strike
Full-bunger on middle, missed out, he can only bash it straight to square leg
That is an extraordinary shot! Improvisation at its best, shimmies across and scoops the full-length ball past fine leg for one-bounce four
Haseeb drops a tough one at fine leg, was a slow itchy back of a length ball at middle, went for the full-blooded pull, Haseeb ran back and it just swirled away fro him, Salman is livid with the fielder
Short and angling wide across off, dinks it out to point
